April Showers!

April showers bring May flowers!…..I know we all remember that nursery rhyme…….so with wet April days upon us, now is a good time to stay indoors and get organized. What me? Get organized? I don’t have time! – I can hear you saying that now. But you don’t have time NOT to be organized! Organization brings you more time and peace of mind while taking away the stress of feeling “out of control”. What better time to get organized than while you’re planning your big day?!

Planning large events like weddings take an enormous amount of time and energy – and of course money! – so getting organized will help you stay on budget and within schedule. It will also alleviate stress as the day grows near and you start wondering if you’ve forgotten anything.

Consider purchasing an Event Notebook to help orchestrate your day. You can buy a fancy one especially made for event planning – there are many out there – or buy a regular three ring notebook to hold your ideas, inspiration photos, price lists, fabric swatches and vendor contracts.

You can also buy month tabs that spell out what you should be doing each month before the event and helps you stay on track. Include some clear plastic sleeves in your binder to hold little items like business cards, sticky notes, etc. to keep them from falling out. The final and most important part of your binder – your budget sheet! Make a list of all items you need to purchase (or borrow) before your event. Estimate what each item should cost you (based upon your online or in-store research). Total your estimates to determine if your budget is realistic or needs to be adjusted. As you purchase each item, write the actual cost next to the estimate, again with a total as you go along. Check this sheet daily and make adjustments as necessary.

You may decide you need to raise your budget – which is ok – as long as it doesn’t take you, or your fiancé, by surprise. Include a Vendor list and an Important Person list (like wedding party, soloist, etc.) with names, numbers and email addresses. Everything for your event should be in this binder – one easy to find place. You’ll never spend time searching for a color swatch or vendor contract again. How will you use your newly found time? Get a massage and relax…you deserve it! Then enjoy your big day without stress.
