To Buy, Borrow or Rent....that is the question!

Planning for a wedding brings one thing into clear focus......expense! Weddings can be very expensive and for those of us not wanting to empty our bank accounts, or run up our credit cards, planning becomes crucial.

There are several options for getting the things that you need and want for your wedding: Buy - retail, wholesale, discount, consignment shop, thrift store or yard sale; Borrow - from a friend, family member, your church, school or place of business; or Rent - from the venue or a rental company.

All of these options have pros and cons to consider: cost, selection, availability, condition and additional costs (like delivery, set-up and pick-up charges). Keep in mind that somethings you will only use for that one day, so buying it may not be the best option. There are websites that have used wedding dresses, tuxedos, table cloths, decorations, etc. and anything else that you may need for your wedding. If you do plan to buy, do your homework and find the best source before you buy. If you plan to borrow, talk to the lender well in advance and try to get the item(s) in your possession as far in advance as possible so that you can check the item and make sure it's in good condition - then keep it close to you until your big day. Renting also requires you to do your diligence and check around. Prices can vary widely for the same item, depending on the company and time of year. Check hidden delivery and pick-up fees - these can sometimes be more than the item you're renting.

It's best to keep it simple: when you try to do too much, with too little, you never do it well. When you cut back on complexity and focus on what's most important, the result can be beautiful! The requirement to select simple clothing, accessories, decorations, food and drink can be challenging but can bring out your creativity. Also, not having the weight of debt hanging over you is a fantastic feeling and you're free to truly enjoy your special day.

At the end of the day, you'll be married to the love of your life and you both will have beautiful memories to hold onto forever.......and your photos and videos - those last forever too!
